Abstract :
The authors review legal theories of liability for defective software as well as other emerging theories which may be applied to expert system software´s new roles in American society. The purpose of this work is to allow expert system developers to understand in advance the performance standards to which they potentially may be held. It is concluded that legal theories will have to be expanded in order to directly establish tort liability due to defects in the software
