Abstract :
Based on radiation/leaky modes and phase relations in multilayer waveguide structures, a passive TE/TM mode selective waveguide is proposed and demonstrated. A set of simple characteristic equation gives an accurate field distribution for low loss leaky modes and it can be used to design and optimize the multilayer dielectric waveguides of practical interest. By utilizing the eigenfunction of the leaky mode as the input optical field, an efficient ADI method based on 3D Parabolic Equation is used to study rigorously the wave propagation properties of the buffered leaky multilayer dielectric waveguiding structures.
