Abstract
We consider wireless ad hoc networks where a remotely located source is transmitting information to a destined user embedded within a group of K colocated users enjoying favorable SNR conditions among themselves, but suffering from quasi-static flat Rayleigh fading with respect to the source. Stringent delay constraints preclude waiting until the user enjoys better channel conditions and require delivery of a message within a period of one fading block. A cooperative transmission strategy is proposed and its expected throughput is investigated. It is shown that a substantial gain in throughout is possible when the colocation gain is high.
