Abstract
In personal communication systems, random handset orientation, low antenna polarization purity and radio channel polarization decoupling will affect the polarization state. An experiment setup with 25-ns temporal resolution at 1.8 GHz is used to measure vertical and horizontal polarizations simultaneously. The measurements are used to characterize the dynamics of the polarization state in personal communication environments. The polarization state is described by Poincare sphere parameters to obtain more complete polarization information than that given by cross-polarization discrimination figures. A negative correlation between power and polarization gradient is found
