Abstract
Summary form only given. We propose a new solution to achieve an efficient seamless handoff performance with a hierarchical mobility management. This solution is based on simultaneous binding of a mobile node home address at the cross over router. This allows the cross over router to send packets intended to the mobile node to the current foreign agent and the new one during the handoff. We define the cross over router as the low intersection between the two paths connecting respectively to the current foreign agent and the new one to the root of the hierarchy. This solution consumes less network resources than the traditional solution in hierarchical mobile IPv4 where the mobile node packets are multicast to the current foreign agent and all its adjacent foreign agents.
