Abstract
Document design concepts and their role in the development of software documentation for dual delivery. The basis for information transmission through the following three domains is examined: (1) creative thinking as a metacognitive process; (2) specific aids to information processing; and (3) cognitive theories of visual processing. Document design guidelines are provided for the printed page and small screen displays. A model of a basic hypertext document for overall effectiveness as a dual delivery document is evaluated
