Abstract :
Skewscope is a software module designed to detect and analyze skew information of textual document images. Its skew detection algorithm, which is the major topic of this paper, directly computes the slopes of all unique pairs of components and draws skew information from their distribution profile. Its validity is examined by using the complete set of University of Washington English Document Image Database I as ground truth. Its utilization of both the foreground and the background components is also discussed.
