Abstract
The Police Scientific Development Branch (UK) has long been involved in the field of evidential image enhancement, including the development of the widely used IMPROVE video enhancement system. As the IMPROVE system is now reaching the end of it´s useful life we have been examining options for it´s replacement. This has of course required a full assessment of the Police´s requirement in order to produce a specification for this new system. A series of visits to various Police Forces video processing facilities and a survey of current IMPROVE users has allowed the operational use of video enhancement systems to be studied and their key features to be identified. The paper describes these requirements and the resulting system specification which has been agreed with the Video Enhancement Users Group, which reports to the ACPO Scientific Support Steering Group
