Abstract :
The major goals of this study were to: (1) assess whether low-frequency stimulation (LFS) is effective at inducing long-term depression (LTD) of the perforant path/dentate gyrus synapse in the anesthetized adult rat hippocampus, and (2) determine the frequency at which the shift from LTD to LTP occurs. Measures of homosynaptic LTD were recorded in the dentate gyrus during experiments conducted on anesthetized adult rats, Our results indicate that stimulation frequencies lower than or equal to 7 Hz resulted in the induction of LTD of both PSA and EPSP slope measures, with a shift to LTP occurring approximately between 11 and 30 Hz stimulation
