  • Abstract
The automatic analysis of different power system events is important for the successful operation of the system and the management of assets in substations or industrial facilities. The paper analyzes the types of system events, available data sources and requirements for the development of hierarchical event analysis systems. The analysis functions available in intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) or at different levels of automatic analysis systems are discussed. The requirements for recording of system events and the hierarchy of such systems are presented. The importance of accurate time-synchronization and methods to achieve it is also described
