  • Abstract
The role of sensor networks in creating smart environments is gathering widespread attention. The work presented in this paper is inspired by a real application where sensor network are well-positioned as the underlying communication technology. We consider the design of a sensor network for automating the water meter reading units spread over some administrative region, and present certain inter-linked characteristics attributed to such a network under single framework. These are connectivity, surviving node failures and reducing overall latency. This paper investigates the plausibility of such a deployment and discusses general, application independent, heuristic solution based on a graph theoretical approach for efficient design of a network, which incorporates the sought features
