Abstract
To reduce weight and increase the efficiency in traction applications several power electronics based solutions have been proposed. Amongst them is the so called medium frequency topology (or power electronic transformer). However, up till now there has been no high power implementation of this topology that operates at switching frequencies that generate mechanic vibrations beyond the auditory sensing threshold. In this paper, based on actual measurements, different implementations of a series resonant converter that operates at a switching frequency of 8 kHz are analyzed and compared.
