  • Abstract
A new phenol-degrading bacterium with high biodegradation activity and high tolerance of phenol, strain B3, was isolated from the coking wastewater of Coking Plant of Shougang in Beijing. The physic-biochemical characteristics as well as 16SrDNA gene sequence analysis were applied to classify the bacteria and its characteristics of degrading phenol The results showed that the strain B3 was identified as Bacillus cereus, the arrearage period of their growth was prolonged with the concentration, and the optimum conditions was 10% of inoculation proportion, 37°C, and pH 9.0. The content of the glucose inhibits the degradation of phenol.
