Abstract :
The paper describes an optically interconnected ATM switching fabric based on the rerouting network. The rerouting network is suitable for high-capacity ATM switches because it offers high-throughput by using detours. The optical interconnection modules, including the multiplexer and demultiplexer, can reduce the number of connections and the problem of skew between links. The 700-Mbit/s rerouting network is successfully demonstrated by using 2.8-Gbit/s optical interconnection modules with 700-Mbit/s electrical ports
