Abstract :
The unique configuration of magnetic fields used in magplane leads to lower cost systems, which are competitive with rail systems. The permanent magnet levitation system with no requirement for on-board power for lift, guidance or propulsion has higher capacity, increased flexibility and shorter trip times than conventional rail. The lift and drag forces are analyzed in the cases of different permanent magnet arrangements. The relations between the lift, drag, lift/drag ratio and the operating clearance, speed are obtained by a numerical method. The payload requirements are presented
