Abstract
Summary form only given, as follows. Summary form only given. RC passive snubbers are used as one of the most simple and reliable methods for voltage balancing both at steady state and transient of switching of serially connected insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs). In this paper, 10 and 20 serially connected IGBTs with RC passive snubbers are demonstrated. The experimental results show that the serially connected IGBTs have good voltage balancing characteristics at the switching conditions of voltages 10 kV (20 kV), currents 80 A, pulse width 1.1 psec and pulse repetition rates of 5 kHz.
