Abstract :
It is assumed that there is a correlation between quality of Malaysian engineers and the pass/failure rates of Malaysian engineers that undertook the Professional Interview (PI) conducted by the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM). This paper describes the development of a database system to enable the monitoring of the quality of Malaysian engineers throughout the years. The system was built for the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) to enable IEM to assess and track failure trend of interviewees of the Professional Interview (PI). The scope of the project presented herewith includes collection of data from 1980 until 2009. Data collected includes the candidates´ profile such as gender, local or overseas graduate, reasons of failure etc. The system was created to enable IEM to observe, for example, the difference in gender performance during the PI and to track which part of the PI that most candidates fails. Included in this paper are the preliminary results from analysis of the data. In addition, discussions and reasons are put forward to explain the graphical output obtained from the system.
