  • Abstract
The applicability of the network for the simultaneous transport of voice and data services in a fiber-to-the home (FTTH) scenario is investigated. Results shows that while CSMA/CD is a random access protocol with non-deterministic delays, low delay and manageable jitter that are within bounds set by current QoS requirements can be achieved for P0 traffic, and without incurring bandwidth starvation of P1 traffic. It is also shown through transient delay analysis of P0 traffic that these bounds are adhered to in the event of sudden fluctuations in the total offered network load.
