Abstract :
To enhance the access flexibility and logical elasticity in the use as delay lines, fibers are combined with optical switches into various types of fiber memories. One type belongs to recursively constructed packet buffers with single-stream I/O for such applications as queueing, multiplexing, demultiplexing, and flexible delay. The present paper considers the switching control speed over some of such fiber-memory applications.
