Abstract :
A symmetrical second-generation wavelet named zzxb7.9 with two vanishing moments was constructed according to the lifting scheme introduced by Sweldens and used to the image compression. The experimental results show that the second-generation wavelet zzxb7.9 is to be promising in image compression because of its better quality video than that produced by db2, bior3.1 and sym2 and smaller compression ratio than that generated by bior3.3, bior3.5, bior3.7 and bior3.9 besides its symmetry and simple construction.
