Abstract :
Dispersed generation (DG) creates a variety of impacts on distribution network operation and implies significant changes to planning practices. An area of interest consists in providing distribution system operators (DSOs) with the means to make best use of the existing network, without the need for reinforcement, nonetheless evidencing which prerequisites might be required to DG according to upcoming new technical rules governing connection to distribution networks. Research is thus encouraged in formulating models for the quantification of bus hosting capacity of distribution networks. In this direction, a novel AC Optimal Power Flow-based mathematical model is thus here proposed, in order to evaluate the available hosting capacity and define which control capabilities a DG could be requested to provide for the overall correct operation of the network. As a study case, the model is applied to a distribution test system, whose data reflects actual values of the Italian distribution network´s parameters.
