Abstract
This work presents a wavelet transform application to analyze the high frequency transients in a transmission system generated by a fault, with the purpose of determining its accurate location. As mentioned, the proposed methodology developed in this work is based on the traveling wave theory, where a simple analysis of peak times revealed by wavelet transforms can be used to estimate the fault location. In the general algorithm both fault location methods (using data from one or both terminals of the line) are developed. The implemented algorithm indicated a very accurate fault location on the transmission system under analysis. However, it should be pointed out that the general precision of the algorithm utilizing data from both terminals was superior compared to the previous case.
