  • Abstract
Mesh type substations are primarily utilised within UK and some Scandinavian transmission networks. Although the application of the AutoSwitching system to mesh type substations is focused in this paper, the philosophy and internal logic functions can be adapted/developed for other substation configurations. It also demonstrates the capability of IED (intelligent electronic device) type devices for developing integrated solutions on a broader spectrum of applications than just Auto-switching systems at substations. A system has been implemented from a requirement to supply a solution for mesh substation auto-switching functionality on the UK transmission power network. This paper describes how the auto-switching functionality has been integrated into the IED and proposed further to integrate the functionality into the SCS (substation control system) network.
