Abstract
The advantages gained by using AC adjustable-speed drives (ASDs) on HVAC fans, pumps, compressors and other equipment have been widely publicized and their use in industry has been on a steady increase. Details presented include a layman´s guide to fan laws, calculation of potential savings based on the three choices of variable air volume control, and evaluation of claims made by vendors. All dollar values presented are approximate, and are based on 1994 energy and equipment costs in the Southeast. Brand names are included to present a cross-section of equipment available and the listing is not intended to be all inclusive
