Abstract
This paper discusses the challenges that can arise from the lack of coordination among the distribution optimization applications. It analyzes the optimization objectives and the corresponding control strategies of the individual optimization applications to illustrate the conflicts in both the objectives and the control logics among the applications. Typical operation scenarios are explored to demonstrate the potentially detrimental conflicts. It is concluded from the results of the logical analysis and the scenario evaluation that a well-designed coordinating mechanism is necessary for the various optimization applications to work harmoniously for achieving the corresponding objectives. A priority based collaborative approach is proposed for coordinating the multiple optimization objectives and control strategies among the applications.
