Abstract
For remotely sensed multispectral thermal IR radiation data analysis, an attempt is made to obtain the approximate radiative transfer equation (RTE) on the basis of the assumptions that water vapor is the only the absorber and that atmospheric radiation can be expressed by the power law of the total precipitable water. Under the simulation based on 4050 atmospheric/surface conditions, the standard deviation of the error between the brightness temperature of the VTIR channels 3 and 4 from the approximated RTE and that from LOWTRAN 7 is up to 1.5 [K]
