  • Abstract
In this paper, we deposited epitaxial Nd/sub 2/Fe/sub 14/B films on a Ta [001] on Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ substrates using the pulsed laser deposition technique from elemental targets. Films with almost perfect perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and out-of-plane coercivity up to 2 T can be achieved by deposition of surplus Nd, which decouples the Nd/sub 2/Fe/sub 14/B grains. Aside from the epitaxy and the intrinsic properties, we also investigated the coercivity mechanism of these samples using a phenomenological theory of Kronmuller et. al.
