Abstract :
The numerical dispersion of a time-harmonic plane wave propagating through a number of infinite, two-dimensional, finite-element meshes composed of triangular edge elements is investigated. The numerical dispersion is characterized by a cumulative phase error. The phase error is quantified as a function of the electrical size of the elements, the direction of propagation of the plane wave, and the orientation of the elements.
