Abstract :
In order to remove the speckles from homogeneous areas of a radar image module, the author proposes to use the subband basis of the wavelet packet algorithm (Walsh packets decomposition). This decomposition permits a space-scale-frequency analysis well suited to this kind of signal that can be considered as noise depending on the signal (root mean square error (rms) of speckles is proportional to the signal). He uses as a reconstruction method the thresholding of wavelet packet coefficients. He shows some results with images yielded by ERS-1 satellite
