Abstract
This paper presents a memetic algorithm (MA) to design an optimal PID (proportional, integral and derivative) controller. The MA is developed for solving the optimization problem and shortens convergence time successfully. The proposed method is tested by a design example of a PID controller for a servo-motor system. The simulation result is presented to illustrate the design procedure and the performance of the proposed algorithm.
