Abstract
A circuit-based switching network architecture with high provision rate is more favorable than a packet-based architecture in broadband optical ring access networks. MPtoP schemes in the proposed circuit-based switching ring architecture provide efficient traffic allocation but generate much duplicate traffic for multicast. This paper computes the bound of bandwidth requirement for transfer multicast traffic in our proposed network model. This paper gives a good guide to design an optical ring access network and also show multicast traffic in MPtoP networks is questiable. Performance analysis and discussion should be helpful for deployment of MPtoP broadband optical ring access networks.
