Abstract
The current merging of computer and technologies is facilitating the trend toward telework/spl minus/remote work arrangements enabled by information technology. With the use of information technology, many tasks and often the entire work process can be rendered independent of the traditional organizational borders of time and space. In this study the authors review the research conducted in the United States, Western Europe, and Japan and propose a taxonomy of different types of telework. Research results indicate that the introduction of telework is a complex process and has profound implications for the organization. However, this research critically lacks any guidance for the decision-maker in determining the feasibility of implementing telework. A framework is proposed to establish a method for determining the suitability of implementing telework in an organization This framework integrates existing research findings with future research areas.<>
