Abstract :
Power systems of today are large and complex, and their control is very difficult. flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) controllers have been readily accepted as feasible means for power flow control for enhancing the steady and dynamic performances of power system during normal and abnormal conditions. Among different FACTS devices, the unified power flow controller (UPFC) is regarded as the most generalized version since it serves to control the three parameters at the same time. This paper presents the different modeling approaches and studies the effect of UPFC parameters for their control objectives. The proposed algorithm has been illustrated on an IEEE 30-bus system.
