  • Abstract
    The framework of a systematic lossy error protection for error-resilient video transmission is discussed and an unequal error protection base on systematic lossy error protection is proposed. The systematic portion of the transmission consists of a video bitstream transmitted without channel coding over an error-prone channel. Error-resilience is achieved by transmitting a supplementary bitstream generated by Wyner-Ziv encoding of the video signal. The macroblock information and the transform coefficients are protected separately. The simulation results show that this scheme can provide graceful degrading video quality over a great range of symbol error rates compared with conventional FEC.
