  • Abstract
    We address cross-layer optimization (CLO) between link and application layer. Using parameterized models of applications and link layer the application data rates and the wireless radio resource allocation are determined such that the perceived quality of the users is good. Conventional approaches consider the sum of all application utilities or the worst application utility as optimization criterion. We propose a different strategy that allows to provide differentiated services with a high degree of fairness inside each priority class. Moreover, it is possible to maintain a minimum service quality, which is realized by an adapted admission control. Consequently, the proposed strategy allows to serve more users with guaranteed service qualities.
