Abstract :
This paper presents method of retinal image compression using filter bank which is build with non symmetric filters. A method for deriving symmetric filters is also illustrated in detail. We also overview the basics of filter bank and perfect reconstruction conditions associated with it. The effect of number of decimating and interpolating stages on compressibility of proposed filter banks is also highlighted. Experimentation of compression is done on sample database retinal images by computing its signal to noise ratio (SNR) for 2:1 and 4:1 compression ratio. Average SNR for 2:1 and 4:1 compression ratio with proposed asymmetric filter bank is observed to be with a slight difference.
