Abstract :
The author describes how the implementation of a wide range of load management initiatives helped Ireland´s Electricity Supply Board (ESB) cope with a growth of almost 50% between 1991 and 1999. ESB will continue to promote the efficient use of electricity through the delivery of value added services to customers. He argues, however, that it is important that all the new players entering the new electricity industry in 2000 should also be involved in a co-ordinated approach to deliver national load management objectives and, possibly, national environmental objectives
