Abstract
In this paper, a kind of Laser-controlled semiconductor-loaded E-plane waveguide switch has been presented. The on/off ratios, losses and phase shifts are given under Laser pulse illumination. The on/off ratio reaches 38.5 dB, the front fringe of the switch is less than 0.05 microsecond, and the insertion loss is only 0.16 dB at frequency 37.1 Ghz. One simple method to analyze its characteristics, which based on the sall aperture theory and mode analysis, has been introduced. The theoritical results are in good agreement with the experimental results. It shows that such switch should be applied in high power millimeter-wave Radar system.
