Abstract :
A packaged detector diode has been mounted in Inset Dielectric Guide (IDG) with performance comparable to that achieved in rectangular waveguide [1]. In IDG the diode gives rise to some radiation, which degrades its performance a little. In this paper the circuit and antenna properties of the IDG mounted diode are examined, and it is seen that an equivalent circuit approach produces a model with good accuracy. The diode´s bias dependent impedance can influence its radiation properties, and so the IDG mounted diode could be suitable for use in active antenna applications. As only a single diode is used to control each antenna element, this could make a cheap active antenna.
