Abstract :
A novel concept of a wideband optical receiver is reported. A split-MSM photodetector is integrated with a two-channel transimpedance amplifier. The output of both the low frequency (0 to 1.2 GHz) and the high frequency (1.2 to 1.6 GHz) channel is combined with a delay equalizing L-C-network. Using this concept, an OEIC receiver for an optical wavelength of 800nm with a bandwidth of over 1.6 GHz has been achieved with a standard 1gm GaAs MESFET E/D process. This receiver type is of particular interest for subcarrier multiplex (SCM) optical receivers.
