Abstract :
Future road traffic will increasingly rely on communication between vehicles or vehicles and an infrastructure. One main problem in these decentrally organized mobile radio LANs is to develop a suitable channel access protocol. The behavior of synchronous channel access protocols is investigated and compared with pure contention protocols, which are optimized for the demands of road traffic networks by varying packet length and reaccess delay. The protocol performance is evaluated in terms of throughput and delay, as well as the efficiency of the packeting scheme
