Abstract :
In this paper, experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) additive on agglomeration caused by burning neutral sulfite semi-chemical (NSSC) black liquor in a bench-scale fluidized bed. The experiments can be performed under temperatures ranging from 700 to 800°C, at additive dosages from 0 to 30%. The experimental phenomenon shows that CaCO3 is a significant effective in reducing the agglomeration problem. With the calcium carbonate dosage increases, the degree of agglomeration decreases. Physical and chemical changes of the samples of the bed material collected after the experiments were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffractometry (XRD). From these analyses, the mechanism has also explained that CaCO3 is effective in solving the agglomeration problem.
