Chongqing is the key city in Western China. In the midst of China´s economic development and its western development, Chongqing plays an important and strategic role. Currently, the housing market is very active, but problems exist with Chongqing´s housing industry, including a lack of new design concepts, primitive technology, low management level, lack of new materials and production methods, and poor standardization. The intention of this study is to explore the feasibility and viability for the development of industrialized housing. This paper is to outline the capacity of Chongqing´s construction industry within the context of physical production and economic factors. This paper compares GDP per capita, labour productivity of construction, number of staff and workers in the construction industry and the consumption of construction materials between Chongqing and other major cities; and examines the potential economic growth, both in the region of Chongqing and across China.
