Abstract :
Dense WDM optical fiber communication systems are contributed to the development of many types of photonics devices. Optical filters are one class of these devices. In dense WDM system with direct modulation, optical filters can be used in the receiver, as demultiplexer, to select a specific channel, and its basic requirements is a narrow bandwidth. The performance of WDM systems is degraded due the combined effects of crosstalk, caused by the optical filter bandwidth, and frequency chirp, caused by on-off modulation of the semiconductor lasers. In this paper we use a simulation environment, called PC-SIMFO, to evaluate the performance of WDM system, using Fabry Perot optical filters. The system simulated is a four channel intensity modulation and direct detection transmission system. Our results show that it is possible to transmit more than 200 channels at 2.5 Gb/s over 50 Km, using conventional single mode optical fiber
