Abstract
A technique for creating large refractive index step binary super-gratings is demonstrated. This technique allows for compact optical devices an order of magnitude shorter than previous demonstrations. For example, an 80 micron long dual-wavelength reflector operating at 1550 nm is presented, which can be extended to multiple wavelengths for compact tunable lasers.
