Abstract
This article is concerned with the model reference adaptive control of systems (e.g. thermal systems, nuclear reactor dynamics) described by parabolic partial differential equations. The authors consider the case where the unknown parameters are spatially variant but time invariant. The analysis is by means of averaging theory and it brings out clearly the unusual features of the spatial setting
