Abstract :
Transient security assessment (TSA) is becoming an essential requirement for the security control of power systems in the new utility environment. This paper describes the motivation behind the development of a new TSA tool and outlines the techniques used in TSA. Methods of preventive and emergency controls for maintaining power system transient stability are also identified, and key issues in the design and implementation of the controls are highlighted
