Abstract :
This paper reviews experience to date with electricity industry restructuring in Australia and the outcomes achieved by the restructured industry. Particular attention is paid to the National Electricity Market, which currently operates in the inter-connected states of New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, as well as the currently isolated state network of Queensland. Because of the vast size of Australia, electricity grids in Western Australia and the Northern Territory are likely to remain isolated from the remainder of the country for years to come
