Abstract
Power angle curves of synchronous machines including saturation and cross-magnetizing effect were calculated by finite element methods in this paper. Two calculation methods were presented. The first one is that the saturated power angle curve is determined directly by FE analysis. The second one is to calculate the saturated reactances by FE firstly and then determine the saturated power angle curve based on the saturated reactances. In the first method, the cross-magnetizing effect is included in the calculation of saturated power angle curve. In the second one, the parameters describing cross-magnetizing effect are calculated by FE analysis and then the saturated power angle curve is calculated using the saturated reactances. The validity of calculation is shown by a good agreement between measured and calculated power angle curve of a 200 MW turbine generator
