Abstract :
Synchronization which is the critical feature for the exchanging of information in brain is considered as the mechanism of brain function and regional integration. In this paper, a standard experiment has been designed in order to research the synchronization in brain when acupuncture. Totally 6 healthy volunteers with an age group of 23-27 years old are subjects in the experiment. The coherence estimation method and the mean phase synchronization method are used to measure the synchronization of electroencephalographic (EEG) signals when acupuncture. It is found that the synchronization in brain is enhanced when acupuncture, which means that the electrical activity of different region in brain can be coordinated by acupuncture. It can be supposed that the coordinating role may be one of the mechanisms of acupuncture.
